Christmas Interiors From Around The World – Northern American

December 14, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

Christmas is celebrated throughout the world, with each country having it’s own traditional colour schemes and interior design styles which reflect the idiosyncrasies of their particular country.

Of course with the prolific use and ease of the internet many people are emulating other country’s decoration ideas to ring the changes, whilst others are vehemently stuck to the traditional styles of the country in which they live!

Traditional Northern American styles reflects the past in a modern way. Natural spruce trees decorated with red and white are commonly seen, which coordinate with the interior décor of many homes.

Arts and crafts are also highlighted within handmade decorations, embroidered cushions and rugs. Windows are dressed with voile style curtains to not only provide a chic style but also to bring the maximum amount of light into rooms whilst providing privacy.

Lounge curtains are also seen made from heavier weight fabrics such as Damask and Jacquard, especially in homes which do not have external shutters to help keep out the biting wind and freezing temperatures.

Holiday season of course begins with Thanksgiving, where families and friends gather to celebrate together. Christmas is also celebrated in the majority of homes with similarity to the UK. Front doors are bedecked with wreaths and the focal point of lounges or dining areas being the Christmas tree, which takes centre stage! Presents are piled underneath in the same way as the UK with the focus being on families, children, eating too much delicious foods, drinking and generally having fun playing games, settling down in front of a roaring fire to watch television, going outside for bracing walks or play in the snow!

In many ways North American people and homes are far more prepared for drops in temperature and snow fall than the UK, although there is bound to be some who disagree!

Attention to detail is given to ensuring that homes are prepared and guests feel welcomed by having guest’s room prepared with crisp clean bedding, with quilted throws and additional blankets and bed runners! Bedrooms are also decorated with festive cheer, fairy style lighting, wreaths or vases full of seasonal flowers.

To ensure bedrooms are warm and cosy a combination of blinds and curtains are often used as the window dressing which coordinate with duvet sets and throws.

The same principles of making guests feel welcome is emulated throughout the world during the festive season, after all who wouldn’t want their home looking at its best when friends and family arrive to spend a day or the entire festive season with you in your home!
