Eclectic mixes enable you to have fun with your design schemes, no longer does everything have to be identical and matching! In many ways the totally coordinated look has moved onto better things with designers bringing back the use of wallpaper which matches curtains, however in order for this style look good it has to be done right!

An easier way to achieve great interiors for most people is to have furniture and soft furnishings which can be moved and swapped to meet new needs as families dynamics change. Having plain walls does provide the opportunity to add different colours, patterns and textures on furnishings without looking out of place and whilst everything should connect in some way the way and method you make the connections can be as strict and defined or as subtle as you like!

White remains a very popular wall and ceiling colour as it provides the blank canvas from which the décor and furnishings can revolve.

Having a focal point is also important and for those who have a bay window are able to use this to its full advantage as the eye will automatically be drawn to the source of natural light when you walk into the room. Therefore the bay window curtains you choose have to be in keeping with the room’s design scheme. As you can now buy curtain poles to fit bay windows, the traditional bay window dressing is no longer your only option as you can now use curtain poles which enable you to pull the curtains full back to each side of the window rather than having to have four curtains which stopped at each angle.

This in itself opens the bay area up beautifully, enabling you to place a pieces of fabulous furniture within the bay to provide a real focal point which has the wow factor! If your bay window is in your dining room it makes sense to place the table and chairs just inside the bay, however you also need to make sure that you are not blocking natural traffic areas, in the past large plants always seemed to be placed in bay windows and yet now having an easy chair and a coffee table within your dining room is fully acceptable and makes a ideal reading and relaxing area.
