Using Ready Made Curtains On Four Poster Beds

Interpretations of four poster beds are being seen in all styles of homes as designers use a wide variety of different themes and styles to bring these beautifully dressed beds right back into fashion.
Historically four poster beds had thick Damask or Jacquard curtains to keep out the cold draughts from windows which had no glass. The reason that the windows were devoid of glass was two fold. Firstly only the wealthy could afford glass and secondly a tax was levied on those who did have glass in their windows, as such people simply removed it so that they didn’t have to pay the taxes!
Of course that doesn’t apply today, however, many designers are using four poster beds with a wide range of different curtains for aesthetic looks rather than practicality! In the summer many people use lightweight voile curtains or mosquito nets to prevent them being bitten by gnats while they sleep. Other people use similar lightweight curtains in silk and taffeta to create a princess styles bedroom in which fantasy presides!

Cream curtains offer a touch of opulence and refinment to four poster beds
On the other hand some of the most elegant and refined bedrooms have four poster beds with gorgeous curtains purely for the opulence and grandeur they provide. Using ready made curtains is an inexpensive way to achieve a stunning effect, those who want to have bespoke curtains can opt for made to measure curtains to ensure the correct length is achieved.
Whether you use bedroom curtains to make your own four poster bed which enables you to actually close them is purely a matter of choice, don’t forget that if you are replicating the historical four poster beds you will need a canopy as well! The same applies for those using curtains to keep the gnats at bay!
To create a stunning bedroom you can have identical bedroom curtains at the window and for the bed, alternatively choosing a slightly lighter hue of the same colour provides an elegant look, different shades of cream curtains are perfect for creating a refined and elegant look. For those who like bright colours and patterns there is no reason why you can’t mix and match to create your own unique look.
Of course white remains extremely popular, having a completely white bedroom offers a crisp, clean look which many interior designers thrive on. You can also using a bright contrast to inject colour subtly into the room, more especially if you adopt the ‘less is more’ approach.
