It’s evident that the trend for all white interiors is not yet over! As well has providing a crisp clean look which is light and airy it’s also timeless and so easy to team with other colours, including various tones of white. As white is a neutral colour it provides an excellent backdrop for incorporating other materials.
However, as white can as be rather bland and non-descriptive if not treated correctly a great idea is to add injections of bright, shiny colours and another of this year’s trends of glossy surfaces, lacquered leather along with furniture which has a high gloss elements coordinated with matt upholstery. This year’s official colour is turquoise which provides the bright injections of an accent colour need to highlight white.
There are a number of different ways you can use accent colours without loosing sight of the white design scheme.
-
Floors can have an accent colour introduced simply by using a rug.
-
Sofas and chairs can have white throws and cushions replaced with a bright accent colour to create a stunning and very stylish look.
-
Add an accent colour by way of pieces of art or objects which are in keeping with the overall theme of the room.
-
Changing the window treatments is an excellent way of bringing a room alive with a bright accent colour either within patterned fabrics or the latest designs in eyelet curtains.
-
Bedrooms can have a new statement headboard introduced, alternatively new curtains in a bold pattern or a simple throw or bed-runner can transform the look of the room and yet still retain the chic styling.

Introduce an accent colour into the room carefully if you want to keep the light airy feel to the room.
The thing to remember is that too much of an accent colour can kill the look of the room instantly. Therefore pick your colour and how you are going to introduce it into the room carefully if you want to keep the light airy feel to the room.
Further interest can be added by introducing new textures such as faux silk, faux suede, embroidered fabrics along with rougher textures such as embellishments on cushions and throws.
Even adding cream curtains in the palest of shades can add interest and breakup the blandness of an all white room.
Of course one of the greatest advantages of using accent colours is that you won’t have to completely redecorate! Just add to what you already have to achieve a new look without distracting from the overall theme and design.
