The Practicalities Of Using Fully Lined Curtains

This year one of the biggest interior design trends is to use a variety of tactile materials and fabrics within your home. Probably the easiest way to do this and to give a whole new look to your home is to focus your attention on your window dressings.

Big bold patterns are in vogue this year, as such choose ready made curtains which combine the latest style trends, colours and variations in texture. The flocking which was popular on wallpaper in the 20th century has now seen it is way into curtain fabric materials. The combination of satin sheen and dark flock pattern produce a window dressing which deserves recognition!

If you opt for ready made curtains with the standards 3 inch heading it enables you to either hang your curtains from traditional curtain tracks, using curtain hooks or you can also use this style of heading on fashionable metal curtain poles simply by using curtain pole rings.

Full length curtains are definitely a ‘must have’ this year. This is now possible as many homes have realised that having radiators placed under windows is not a very efficient way of heating a home!Even if you do have radiators under your windows it is still possible to use full length curtains which look stunning during the day, the only problem is that once you close the curtains at night the heat from the radiator warms the window and not the room!

If this is the problem in your home there is the easy solution. Use the full length curtains and sweep them apart at the centre, hold them in place with matching or contrasts in tiebacks, and use a roller blind or Venetian blind which can be pulled down at night to give you your privacy without having to close the curtains.

It may seem somewhat surprising that in this day and age a huge percentage of heat loss is via your windows despite them being double glazed. There is also an easy solution to this dilemma, and that is to use the in trend window dressing of using a blind in conjunction with fully lined curtains. This effect not only looks gorgeous it also supplies you with a triple layer of insulation, helping to retain the heat within your room during the winter months whilst in the summer the heat build up is also reduced.

Using fully lined curtains is a practical and effective method of controlling heat, the lining will also help your curtains to hang beautifully as well as reducing your curtains from fading in harsh sunlight.
