Curtain Styles – Part 3 – Eyelet Curtains

Eyelet curtains have made dressing your windows easy! It’s just a matter of having a curtain pole and sliding them on, however, you will have to make sure you have the right diameter size, colour and style of pole to create a stunning window dressing.

The diameter size will be dependant of the weight of the curtains. Lightweight voiles don’t necessarily need a large size giving you the opportunity to choose a style which provides a balanced look which is in keeping with your furniture and overall style.

However, if you have medium and heavy weight curtains you should ensure that the curtain pole is robust enough to take the weight without bending the pole, this is more pertinent to metal curtain poles rather than wooden ones.

The great advantage with eyelet curtains is that they suit all interior design styles and all rooms within your home. Choose beautiful lightweight voiles if you want to create a soft and floaty look, opt for lined versions if you need privacy; alternatively team them with a contrasting fabric Roman blind to create a chic window dressing.

You could also adopt one of this year’s trends and use a combination of voile curtains as the centre panel, which will provide you privacy during the day, and medium weight eyelet curtains in the usual manner. When the curtains are drawn closed at night the centre panel simply becomes a strip of fabric in the centre of the curtains. Of course, you could leave them in place for a non-fussy look.

Ready made curtains with an eyelet heading enable you to choose colours and patterns to suit your colour scheme beautifully and effortlessly. It is also possible to make your own eyelet heading curtains as there are special heading tapes which provide the necessary ‘eyelet’ covers which snap over the hole to prevent the curtain from fraying.

Eyelet curtains provide a chic and stylish wave effect pleat in curtains of all weights and have become one of the most popular window dressings due to their versatility and practicality. Full length curtains are ideal as both bedroom or lounge curtains if you want to bring a fresh new look and style to your windows.
