Curtain Styles – Part 4 – Ring Top Curtains

There are two different styles of ring top curtains. The first is similar to eyelet curtains which provide an easy way to hang curtains from curtain poles.

As we saw in part 3 -Eyelet Curtains, this style is on-trend and suits all styles of homes beautifully.

The other type of ring top curtains are hung from curtain poles, however, rather than the eyelet this style has a standard three inch heading which can be used to create a multitude of even spaced pleats, pinch pleats or goblet pleats. The rings are fitted to the heading taped using small curtain hooks, which then pass onto the curtain ring itself.

These offer classical styling with an elegant and refined look, bridging the gap between the use of curtain tracks and curtain poles wonderfully and are a for-runner to eyelet curtains.

As standard heading tape is used this curtain style is easy to make yourself if you’re looking for a completely coordinated and bespoke look to your windows, yet works equally effectively with ready made curtains, providing as quick and easy route to having beautifully dressed windows.

As with eyelet curtains the diameter of the curtain poles will need to be taken into consideration, the lighter the fabric the smaller the diameter can be, whereas medium and heavy weight curtain fabrics will need a more robust and larger sized pole.

Curtain rings quite often come with the proportionate size to the pole, however you can also buy them separately if you prefer to have larger or smaller curtain rings to suit your soft furnishings and room’s design style.

The key to success is to choose the curtain poles which compliment your rooms, this year’s trend for metallics is ideal for use of metal curtain poles from which to hang lounge curtains to create a stunning window dressing which brings a sense of balance and cohesion to your room.

If you’re stuck as to which colour curtains to use, cream curtains are a timeless classic which is available in a variety of different hues and shades, their neutral colour enables them to be teamed with any colour scheme and décor, they also offer a less clinical look than white in homes which are more traditionally styled.
