Choosing a window dressing for use in the nursery need to be given careful consideration. Not only do you want a stylish look, you’ll also need to consider the practicalities and safety aspects.
There has been recent publicity highlighting the potential dangers of using blinds or curtains which have pull a cord to operate them, as these can pose a danger to children and vulnerable people.
As such, it’s probably far easier to opt for ready made curtains which you open and closed by hand. This doesn’t mean to say you have to do dip out on the latest design styles for children’s bedroom curtains or blinds all it does mean is that you need just to keep in mind the style and designs you choose.

Stylish tab top curtains
If you want to create a stylish look which is easy on the eye and gentle on the pocket tab top curtains are an ideal choice. Opt for neutral colours such as cream or beige curtains and highlight them with a panel of children’s patterns which coordinates or complements the rest of the nursery décor.
The panel can easily be changed to make a cost effective way of updating the nursery look as your child grows older. Children’s curtain fabrics can be found online in a vast array of different colours and designs. All you need to do is simply use your sewing machine, or stitch by hand, a new panel in either a plain or more appropriate design, for example alphabet designs always go down well in the toddler’s bedroom.
As your child grows the panel can be changed to suit the latest super heroes or on-trend colours as you update and redecorate the room.
Tab top curtains have one of the simplest curtain headings which create beautiful wave effect pleats when open and closed. There is no need for complicated tracking to hang them from, all you need is a curtain pole which complements the furnishings of the room, for example pine colours blend naturally with neutral colours to give a natural warmth to the room. Alternatively you could use metal curtain poles, which again complement the style of the room.
You should also give consideration to the density and thickness of the fabric to prevent sunlight coming into the room. If you prefer lightweight fabrics it’s a good idea to have a black outlining to ensure that your baby or toddler isn’t disturbed by light when they have their naps during the day.
