Blue and turquoise have been the main staple family bathroom colours for decades and yet if you want the latest contemporary styles you can incorporate, up-date and redo the look by following a few easy steps.

White bathrooms suites have replaced the coloured suites of the 70s, if you still have a mid-turquoise bathroom suite rather than ripping it out and replacing it a more cost effective way to re-vamp your bathroom is to turn the tide on the colours and use your 70s bathroom suite to your advantage! How? Spruce the room up with crisp white walls, ceiling and flooring. Do away with out dated clutter and keep your accessories to a minimum in either white or turquoise.

Make your bathroom appear larger with the clever use of mirrors and reflective surfaces. Re-tile walls in white, for a funky look use turquoise grouting to match the bath, or use mosaic tiles to give a completely new look.

Use the basin wisely by adding storage with a pull-out drawers underneath or hang a cabinet on the wall to make the room feel larger. Even the plainest, cheapest of bathroom suites can be made to look on-trend with smart storage, choose mirrored pieces to make a small space seem bigger.

Use white curtains for an opulent look

If you have a huge bathroom a free-standing statement bath is a must, give your bathroom the spa room treatment by using polished marble on the floor and walls. Use white curtains rather than blinds for an opulent look. Make your bath the focal point, you can even do this in a small bathroom by creating a feature wall behind it with a strong paint or tile colour in turquoise and by framing it with mirrors.

Add natural warmth by including light wood duck boards in place of a the out dated bath mats and natural light wood accessories, including wooden Venetian blinds if privacy is needed. Turquoise and natural light wood can turn a white clinical looking bathroom into a truly gorgeous on-trend space.

If you have a black and white bathroom simply de-clutter and add turquoise accessories and turquoise blue curtains to inject splashes of vibrant colour, don’t over do it, remember the ‘less is more’ rule.

If you want glamour and luxury furnish your bathroom in the same way as you would you bedroom, add chandelier lighting, made to measure curtains along with opulent accessories. Simplicity is the key to success in a contemporary bathroom, which means de-cluttering, keeping the décor simple and displaying only your best accessories.
