Using This Year’s On-Trend Colour Turquoise – In The Living Room

April 2, 2010 by admin · Leave a Comment

This year’s on-trend colour will add vibrancy to your living room, however don’t go overboard or you may end up with a room which has no focal point and is too bright on the eyes!

The secret is to use the colour as an accent colour which teams beautifully with crisp, fresh white to give a light and airy look to your living space. For more contemporary interiors turquoise is ideal to team with black or chocolate brown to create a dramatic impact.

Use turquoise as an impressive accent colour

Choose your accents pieces to compliment your existing furniture by using turquoise cushions, table lamps and throws. You should also remember to keep to a maximum of three colours, two for the main colours and one as the accent or one as the main base colour and two accents to add interest and inject subtle splashes of turquoise.

Keep the whole appearance of the room light by selecting the right window dressing, voile curtains offer a light, yet stylish window dressing, if you need privacy opt for lined versions. It’s a bit of a cliché but make small rooms appear large by sticking to white walls and flooring, inject turquoise to take the stark coldness off. If you’re going to include patterns on walls and curtains choose the ones with light backgrounds as this will add further light to the room.

If you use all white add different textures to lift the room and provide natural focal points, this can be anything from embroidered cushions, rugs and natural Roman blinds in the latest wood-weave finishes.

The reverse is true for large living spaces, make them feel cosier by using darker colours on the walls and floors. This is where you can add bold splashes of turquoise with you accessories to give the room a bold and dramatic look. Gloss black Venetian blinds will make the ideal window dressing which will blend stylishly with the scheme.

Heavy curtains are great for large rooms, however, one of the latest interior design trends is to use blinds which are fitted within the window casing, leaving the outer wood-work frame exposed. This will also make your windows appear large and will also maximise light.

If you don’t like the thought of not having curtains combine, blinds and curtains for an on-trend look to your windows.
