A Bollywood themed bedroom – lots of colour, spice and a great deal of positive energy. This far away design inspiration is not for the faint-hearted, but for those who have a loving relationship with warm, bright colours and are not afraid to mix and match.

The Bollywood look is both elegant and sexy, fun and laid-back. Are you ready for the transformation? Dive in to discover lots of useful advice and design ideas to accomplish this beautiful Eastern bedroom.

No Call For Neutrals!

So many design ideas are based around a neutral palette – but there is no cause for neutrals in a Bollywood themed bedroom. You need to embrace rich, warm colours – those that are invigorating and brilliant. India loves colour, you only have to watch the movies, observe the Holi festival or visit the cities of Rajasthan to see how much colour is a part of their culture.

Colours are larger than life – pinks, reds, oranges, blues and purples in bejewelled shades. In Indian culture, colours are symbolic and you can even see the use of colour in the Bollywood movies – such as red and gold for scenes of desire. The colour purple also brings in this exotic feeling when matched with hot pink and gold accessories.

Due to the richness in colour used – this theme works better in larger rooms. Try a deep plum colour on the walls and experiment with gold leaf or gold stencilling. For a pink and purple room, you could even take one more colour to really give it a kick – the complimentary colour of aqua blue/green would be an amazing addition in smaller doses.

Flooring and Furniture Design:

Carpets or wooden floorboards with large rugs are best for the Bollywood bedroom – just keep it in line with the rest of your colour scheme. Don’t leave furniture out of the equation when using colour – go for a slightly lighter shade that you used fort the walls and again, use some gold detailing.

A four poster bed wouldn’t go a miss either if you have a spacious room, otherwise keep it minimal and liven it up with your choice of fabrics or choose a bed-head with a diamond button design.

Gorgeous Fabrics Are A Hit!

Fabrics used in the Bollywood bedroom are just as important as any other aspect of the design. Rich colours such as the plums and pinks we suggested in silk and as many cushions as you want in the same colour or using an accent colour of aqua blue. Bedroom curtains should also be colourful – perhaps a block colour with a golden trim in a sheen fabric. Another tip is to look for curtains with a paisley print.

Finishing Touches:

Decorate the walls with some large canvases painted simply with vibrant, layered colour or perhaps a stylised drawing of an elephant. Throw some rose petals across your bed and simply enjoy your new, dazzling interior.
