Having an ear out for the latest colour trends is useful when you wish to change the look of your home through colour. We always have our ears pricked up – we can even tell you of good things to come! In this post, we are just a tad in front to reveal the colour of homes for the autumn/winter season. Sapphire blue is all about a rich blue palette that is saturated and luxurious, ranging from the darker inkier blues to softer, lavender blues/periwinkle. Read on to discover more about next season’s hottest decorating colour and how you can introduce it into your home via curtains, blinds and accessories.

Sapphire Blue Profile
Sapphire blue comes from the gemstone of the same name; it is saturated, intense and vibrant. Although there is another side to sapphire blue that is lighter and captured with hues such as periwinkle. The vibrant shades of sapphire are more modern, whereas the lighter shades are more reminiscent of traditional colour palettes – both ends of the scale will be on trend this year. The deeper you go, the more opulence you can bring to a space. Try medium bold tones for decorating fun dining rooms, children’s bedrooms or playrooms and take on the lighter shades for tranquil bedrooms and bathrooms.
Decorating Ideas
· The dining room is not a bad place to try out this colour trend and we like the medium sapphires which can be fun and uplifting. As a saturated colour, it looks great when teamed with another saturated primary colour – red for example. Which just brings me to the subject of another reoccurring trend, our beloved Union Jack has been appearing on cushions and other accessories recently (perhaps re-instating some of the national pride lost this summer?).
These exact colours work brilliantly and the red stops the blue from being too cool. Lots of white keeps it clean, a little bit calm and collected. Use a base of stony white, white and add equal amounts of blue and red – awesome!
· The deepest hue of sapphire is a perfect choice for bedroom curtains when combined with a lighter shade of duck egg blue. The duck egg blue will help to give the intensity of inky sapphire a softer edge. You might also like to add a touch of pale grey and a dark grey to almost black for adding more clarity. Choose on-trend duck egg blue bedding, a mixture of blues, greys and whites for pillow covers and sapphire blue curtains.
