Latest Colour Trends 5 – Gorgeous Greys

September 4, 2010 by admin · Leave a Comment

Who hasn’t been falling over for grey décor this year? Grey is the neutral and it has been anything but dull and miserable. In the past, grey has seen its rise and falls – but often it wasn’t given the justice it deserved. Uncomfortable visions of grey, scratchy carpet in the office or horrific grey and washy pink tiles in the bathroom – both of which are pretty much a thing of the past (thankfully).

Now it is all about smoky greys on accent walls to contrast with crisp white or splashes of fizzy yellows and hot pinks. Gorgeous greys are so stylish right now – get your share with the help of our decorating tips!

· Grey is an amazing colour in that it can be both warm and cool in its various tones; which in turn, makes it a fitting addition to virtually any colour palette. It couldn’t be easier to add colour into your home décor than doing it with grey. With a monochrome black and white scheme, grey can be brought in to soften the overall look and give it another layer of interest. This is great in bedrooms; try painting the walls in a classic shade of grey, leaving skirts, moulding and doors in eggshell white. A black wooden or wrought iron bed frame is given more focus and to really give it a special touch – metallic or mirrored accents in accessories.

· A darker, warm grey can add drama to the dining room without needing energising red. Before you disagree, imagine the walls in a dark grey/brown with pleated curtains one shade lighter and with a lovely sheen. Upholstered dining chairs in grey velvet and a medium brown dining table with polished finish. Keep it fresh with a touch of white in flower arrangements or a pendant lamp above the table.

· On to the lighter greys, a winning look this summer was the lightest of greys used in laid-back lounges with lots of white. White slip covers were used for sofas and simple white binds for windows. To take this look into the chillier months you might want to go with a dark wood coffee table and side tables. A warm colour could be brought in such as a hot pink on sofa cushions or give windows another layer with made to measure curtains.
