Beautiful Bedroom Designs: In the Pink!

February 17, 2012 by admin · Leave a Comment

Pink remains a timeless classic bedroom décor often associated with femininity and ‘girls’. The expression ‘in the pink’ means ‘in perfect condition or health’ and has been used as far back as the 16th century. This term seems somewhat fitting for a bedroom design which, in metaphorical terms, is in good condition and looking healthy – not worn-out, dishevelled and tired!

Today the stereotypical pink associated with females is being somewhat disparaged as we try and knock-down the walls which have failed to equalise men and women. Today men wear pink and think little of it, pink and grey or pink and black for example, capture both genders to create stunning interiors which are enjoyed by either, or both, genders.

However, it’s the assembly of a bedroom, its design and tones of pink used which make it on-trend. Last year we saw ‘hot pink’ popping up to give an invigorating look to bedrooms. This year the deeper hues of pink are in-vogue for modern and contemporary interiors.

Pale sugar candy pink and black are superb colour combinations, ideal for creating bedrooms which are chic and stylish. The proportion of colour you give to one of the colours can instantly change the dynamics of the room. With black as the most dominant colour the room takes on a more masculine look, while pink as the predominant colour leans favourable towards femininity.

If pink is being used as the main colour you can still include masculine elements by using chunky furniture and plain fabrics rather than floral patterns. The materials and fabrics you include will also help to bring a gender balance to the room.

Adding a variety of different textures is imperative if the design is to be successful. Pink leather, although feminine in colour, has a masculine textures which is renowned for it’s durability. Pink curtains in a sheer fabric can compliment the leather as the two opposites attract. Alternatively if you choose a deeper pink, in a thicker fabric, for your bedroom curtains the room can change to favour male qualities.

Whichever way you look at it pink remains a timeless classic colour for bedrooms – maybe it’s because in the past women took the lead role in selecting colours for their homes? Who knows – yet today with equality and men not being shy of showing their feminine side pink in its various shades and hues is a great colour choice for all styles of bedrooms.
